Phoenix,
AZ - On Saturday, October 27, 2007, more than 200 youth and
teens from across Arizona met at the Boys & Girls Clubs of
Greater Scottsdale, Vestar Branch, to participate in
Techathalon. This year marks the 5th anniversary of the
event in the state of Arizona.
Throughout the day, teams from
Tucson to Bullhead City competed head to head in
challenges focusing on multimedia, engineering, mathematics and
web design. And, while Club members were showcasing their
talents in the challenge areas, they also demonstrated the core
value of Techathalon - teamwork!
"I
learned that I can achieve a lot more in a smaller time span
with a team than without one. It is just more fun and you
can learn a lot more too," said one 10-year old
participant from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale,
Piper Branch.
One 12-year old Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson member
commented, "I learned I can't always do everything myself,
sometimes I need other people to help me."
In addition to the exciting challenges, Techathalon
participants also had the opportunity to explore a variety of
hands-on science, technology and engineering activities in the
Exploratorium. This year's Exploratorium featured a live
show from the Physics Factory, mapping software
from Google, interactive game
testing from Intel and many more!
Congratulations to all the Techathalon participants and we
look forward to seeing everyone again next year!
Techathalon would not be possible without the support of
community business and volunteers. Special thanks to
Intel, NPCE, Cox, Google, Chandler Gilbert Community College and
all those who supported this year's event.
